What on earth do I have up my sleeve now?? How about a hint:
And a close up of the embroidery design on the sides:
They turned out sooo cute!!
Pattern: New Look Pattern 6354, combination of views A and B.
Fabric: Two and a half yards of Country Classic Cotton Solid, in Grey.
Alterations: I added the embroidery design on the sides of the legs. To do this, I construction the two side seams half way up the leg first, instead of the following the directions exactly. I also disregarded the insertion of the elastic around the waist band, and instead sewed a casing just for the drawstring.
Cost: The supplies for these pants were purchased at Joann's - fabric at regular price for $3.49/yard ($8.73), Wright white twill tape for the drawstring ($1.89) and two spools of embroidery thread $3.49 each. No stabilizer was purchase, already had some in the stash. Total = $17.60.
Impressions: I had read in Sandra Betzina's Power Sewing that New Look patterns were one of four pattern makers that have "true sizing" for today's woman's body shape (the others being Burda, Today's Fit by Vogue and Style - who I have never heard of). I would have to agree. There were no sizing alterations made and I love the fit. The most time consuming portion of the project was the embroidery (I'm not a fan of re-hooping!). The construction of the garment was an absolute breeze - took hardly any time at all.
Finished Dimensions: To fit me.
