Fabric: Three and one-quarter yard of Joann's "vintage" collection cotton, $3.99/yd; 2-1/2" black bias tape $8.80; 1-1/2 yard black cotton (belt). $1.99/yd; snap closures, from stash.
Alterations: Many, if compared to the original Vogue template. I was inspired by a dress seen on Anthropologie's website a couple of months ago. My creation has come close to that inspiration, yet has my own flare. Here's the original picture I have and mine on the dressform:
Cost: The main and belt fabric was purchased at Joann's; I had the snap closures in the stash; and I purchased the bias tape from Ready Bias. Total = $24.76. If I remember correctly, the dress from Anthropologie was originally $168 and on sale for $124 (it is now out of stock). A lot of time and effort went into my wrap dress - but for a savings of about $100, and the fact that I now have pattern pieces from which I can make another one or two - it was worth it.
Impressions: I love the cut of the pattern. I also like the weight of the vintage cotton fabric. I am thinking about adding one additional snap near the v-neckline... Since it's a bit deeper than I am used to, I'm a little self-concious when bending over that it will fold over just enough to expose myself! I love the obi-style belt. I think someone's request to have one may be granted, as well as making a simple black dress with a brocade one for myself!
Finished Dimensions: To fit me.
I need to find a nice, simple, yet stylish dress pattern for said black dress - any ideas?
