One By One

Binding!

Been a busy quilting bee, working away on Jake's Dr. Seuss quilted blanket. I just finished making the bias binding... Now time to square off the blanket and get the binding attached!

Dr. Seuss!!

Got my hands on the just released Dr. Seuss fabric yesterday!!

 

This us going to be a quick blanket quilt for Jake. Just going to sandwich the prints, practice my free motion quilting, and bind it with the rainbow print. "Quick"? Not so sure about that, but it will be fun.

I also picked up two other Dr. Seuss prints that will be button down shirts for lil' man. Those will come later :)

 

Square in a Square

I recently discovered that I do not like piecing triangles. I really really don't like piecing triangles!

Luckily, while at my parent's in May, my mom showed me an amazing piecing technique published by Jodi Barrows - Square in a Square!

I worked my way through "Constellation," one of the beginner projects in the first book. It is a small wall-hanging type project, so it's fitting that it was finished just in time for July 4th.

I also tried my hand at free-motion quilting without using the embroidery unit.

I think it turned out great considering it is my first time! And I'm hooked, to both Square in a Square and free-motion quilting. I will be on the look out for both books (especially this one since it shows how to convert existing patterns) and the ruler.

I also noticed that Jodi Barrows recently added some video tutorials as well as a new free pattern. I definitely need to get that pattern made for Christmas!

Duck Duck Goose

I started this quilt (my first ever) with my mom's help the first weeks after Jake's birth. Needless to say I have not had to opportunity to work on it since July. But, things have begun to stabilize around here and I have been able to find bits of time here and there to bring it out of the WIP pile:

Can't really tell from the picture, but the quilting has been completed. It just needs to be "squared up" and binded. No easy task for a first-time quilter (the idea of squaring up terrifies me). My mom has been sending me youtube links and other videos of the next steps since she can't be here to hold my hand through it. Hopefully I'll have some time this weekend to do-it-to-it and make more progress.

Along the same lines of the duck duck goose fabric, I've found that the same designer makes another line but with penguins

DH loves penguins, so I think I see another quilting project in my future :)

I do have that finished knit to share - and being that it is raining right now, I just might be able to get that action shot soon!
