"Bang, bang, bang"
Huh, umm... what, it's 1AM...
"Bang, knock, bang, knock, bang"
What on earth are the cats doing - playing in the middle of the night?!
"Bang, knock, bang, knock, bang"
...Wait... all three cats are on the bed... What is going on!
ANDY! - WAKE UP - Someone is banging on the bedroom porch door.....
"Umm... no... it's one of the cats..."
NO IT'S NOT - They're all on the bed!
"WHAT!"
Jumping out of bed, turning on lights ensue...
After looking out of windows, Andy went out the front door to see what was causing the noise... luckily the same noise woke up our back neighbors... as they saw Andy walk down the driveway, they stopped him....
"Shhhh....."
Huh?!
"Shhhh.... there is a skunk playing with a rock... he was on the driveway..."
Andy comes back in - and tells me...
WHAT!? I have never heard of such a thing...
"Well, I think that they can be as smart as cats... some people have them as pets I think, with the stink mechanism removed..."
At this point the cats are awake - one won't go near the floor, refusing to leave the bed; the other two are running around chasing the noise that now seems to be right underneath us...
Honey, I think the skunk is under the house...
"You know, I think there is a crawl space right next to the bedroom porch door..."
Oh crap! The skunk is under the house!
"ping, pong, ping, pong, ping, pong..."
So, with no idea of what to do next, and afraid that the skunk will spray underneath the house, we call Animal Control - "Oh, okay, well, since skunks are not considered wild animals, we are not authorized to remove it. You will have to call a pest control company..."
What!?!
So... what do you want to do...
"Well, I'm afraid that if someone tries to remove him that he will spray..."
Me too... well, if it is anything like our cats he will get tired of it eventually...
2AM.... "Well, I don't hear him anymore..."
Me either...
"Maybe he got bored and left..."
Either that or he fell asleep under there...
"Great, let's hope not..."
I'm glad things turned out okay. Don't you love Animal Control phone answers? We once had a possum problem at my mom's place. Animal Control was like, "Not our problem." I believe they're not worthy of the title "Animal Control." Don't even get me started about when Pogi died. They were worse than worthless in helping my poor, grief stricken mom. They had *her* drive down there with him in the back seat. They are beyond cruel sometimes.

The house next door had a skunk go under it and spray...almost a year later and $70,000 in renovations and you can still smell it.
So, er, no sudden moves, no loud noises 'til you know s/he's gone.
I'm just about as helpful as Animal Control, eh?
