I finished up my Day in the Park backpack - And I love it!

Here are the specs:

Pattern: Day in the Park Backpack, pattern by distressed.

Fabric: 3/4 of a yard of Etsuko Furuya print on outside, 1-1/2 yards quilting cotton on inside, 1-1/2 yards medium-weight sew-in interfacing.

Alterations: I purchased some brown webbing to use as the handles instead of making handles from contrast fabric -  I used 2 yards total. I also made the entire bag using my dual-feed foot (aka walking foot). This made putting the bag together an absolute breeze.

I think there is a mistake on the fabric cutting layout diagram as it contradicts the handy table in the pamphlet indicating all the pattern pieces to cut out of what. I'm talking about pattern piece #9. I did not cut it out of the main fabric, but out of the lining fabric only.

Cost: This has to be the most expensive bag I've ever made. The outside fabric was $16/yard. The inside fabric was $8.99/yard. The webbing was $1/yard. The canvas interlining, button and thread came from the stash. The interfacing was $1.99/yard. $30.48. With the cost of the pattern and hardware (I bought it as a kit) - $63.84. Ouch. The good news is that all future bags will not have the cost of the pattern involved since I'm accounting for it here.

Impressions: Did I tell you that I love this bag? It is a perfect "out all day" kind of bag. The directions are very clearly written and diagrammed. This bag will definitely get a lot of use, and I will more than likely make a few more. I'm thinking about integrating a zipper at the top on the next one (instead of using a magnetic clasp), but I need to think about the construction changes that would entail. We'll see :)
