Bodice Sloper Finished

It doesn't look like much, but I hope to get A LOT of use out of it!

The class is continuing onto making slopers for pants. I'm a bit bummed that we are not making a blouse using the sloper we just finished, and probably won't get to it for two months.

I am impatient. I can't possibly wait two months to use this baby!!

So, I'll be winging it until then. I have a book, and my experience as a home sewer. May stumble along the way, but it will be a great learning experience and lots of fun!

Then I can learn the proper way of using my sloper in a couple of months. Until then, it's onto making a pants sloper!!

Sloper Class - Part 2

What started out as a paper pattern and muslin pieces has become a mostly fitted sloper bodice:

 

The class instructor has some of the most awesome alteration/fitting skills I have ever seen. Ever! The magic she was working on not only my sloper, but on some of the other class participant's slopers was just amazing. I had fun just watching her. I totally want her skill set!

Anyway, in comparison to some of the other participant's, my fittings and alterations were pretty simple. We had to add a bigger bust dart and adjust the shoulder seam placement. As you can see, I've added some length to my sloper. The instructor wants to fit me through the hips during the next class. We will also have to adjust the placement marks for bust, waist and abdomen. For some reason mine are off. But that should be an easy fix. 

I wasn't the only one who made the comment "this is the best fitting shirt I've ever owned." Too bad it's in muslin and all the seams out inside-out :)

This class is so exciting. I can't wait to see my sloper pattern in 2D and learn about all the things I can do with it.

Sloper Class - Part 1

After seeing a Sewing Slopers class advertised at a local sewing center, I decided I just had to take it!

The first session was all about taking measurements. These measurements went into a software program to create the patterns. Nothing too exciting.

But at the second session we got our printed patterns and it was time for assembly and muslin cutting!

 

Here's mine. The paper pattern pieces are on the left, and one cut and traced muslin piece is on the right.

Next session - we put it together and have our first fittings.
